Week 02

Randy Pausch makes so many good points in his last lecture. He was able to achieve his childhood dreams because he never let anything stop him and his parents did not stop his creativity, even when it involved the walls in his home. Dreaming is important because it helps us experience things we would never think of otherwise. Even if the dream is impossible it helps by giving us the confidence to go after something that we want. Dreaming is not going to hurt anyone, in fact, people who dream big are often happier than the people that settle for less. One of my childhood dreams was to have a job that involved animals in any way. I know I can achieve this because there are so many different jobs that involve animals. The job I am working towards involves dogs and I know if I went back in time to tell myself what I eventually will do, she would be ecstatic.

My favorite part is when he says that brick walls are not there to stop us, they are there to let us prove how badly we want something. “Brick wall” can be anything from rejection to a college, not getting the job you were going for, taking longer to accomplish something, etc. Brick walls stop the people that do not want it bad enough. A lot of people look at rejection and failure as terrible things, but if you view them as learning experiences to get to the “Star” or end goal you will begin to find success. This reminds me of a quote by Willie Nelson, “Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will begin to have positive results.” You never know how much time you have, to achieve your goals, so you do not want to let things, that in the end are small and minuscule, stop you from achieving or realizing them.
