Week 03
Integrity is something we often oversimplify. Honesty is part of integrity but there is more to it than just that. When we live with integrity, President Spencer W. Kimball (1895–1985) taught that “integrity is the willingness and ability to live by our beliefs and commitments”. Although just because we believe something is right and we do it does not mean we are living with integrity. For example, if someone believes that stealing and lying is the only way to get ahead, would you believe they have integrity? Of course not. Our beliefs need to line up with God and His commandments. Employers are more apt to hire someone and keep someone with integrity than someone that is not. Same goes with employees, people do not want to work and follow someone that does not have integrity. Employees, clients, and anyone else you are working with and/or for want someone they know can be trusted. If you show your beliefs and integrity constantly you will never have to worry about people being willing to commit if they have integrity as well. Now, none of us will be perfect and we will often have mistakes, whether it be as an employer or an employee. As long as we admit to those mistakes most the time people will be understanding. If you have integrity, you will earn respect from your peers and you will give your peers that same respect. Following the path of Christ, especially when it comes to integrity, you will always find the people that you deserve and who deserve to have you in their lives. Not only in the professional field but also in the personal one as well. I am not saying that if you have integrity life will be easy, but it will make life easier. Having those tools, as in integrity and respect, in your “toolbelt” will help you in the long run if you begin practicing those now.
